The UAA volleyball team left Hawaii on a winning note and returned home to accolades.
Eve Stephens and Ellen Floyd merited player-of-the-week honors Monday from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for their play during UAA’s four-match trip to Hawaii.
Stephens tallied double-figure kills in all four of UAA’s matches in Honolulu, where the Seawolves beat Hawaii Pacific twice and split two matches with Chaminade to come home with a 3-1 record. Floyd handed out 143 assists and made 51 digs while also contributing at the net with 15 kills and seven block assists.
Chaminade took a four-set win the first meeting on Saturday night 25-23, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23. The Seawolves bounced back Sunday afternoon to avenge the loss in four sets 27-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23.
Stephens and Floyd were forces the whole weekend, and Stephens had her biggest match Sunday against Chaminade.
The right-side hitter from Palmer totaled 22 kills and 15 digs for the 20th double-double of her career — and her second of the season. In Saturday’s match against Chaminade, she was good for 15 kills and a career-high 18 digs.
The Seawolves continue nonconference play this week when they host the three-day Seawolf Invitational at the Alaska Airlines Center. Six teams are in the tournament, including the rival Nanooks from UAF.
There’s a mask requirement for spectators.
