Amy Cooper Named Nanooks Newest Faculty Athletic Representative

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks athletic department has announced their new Faculty Athletic Representative. Amy K. Cooper, CPA, CGMA, MPAcc, has accepted the nomination and will step into the role immediately. 

"I am excited and honored to serve as the UAF Faculty Athletic Representative! Athletics have the power to bring together the university and Fairbanks communities. I look forward to working with student-athletes, the athletic department, and other areas on campus to provide the support student-athletes need to achieve academic success and maintain their well-being."

Cooper has been at the University of Alaska Fairbanks since the summer of 2007 when she joined as an adjunct instructor teaching Accounting Principles. After two summers of adjunct work, Cooper joined UAF as an accounting instructor in 2009. Since then, she has taught courses including Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Managerial Cost Accounting and Professional Development. Before UAF, Cooper spent Fall 2005 as an adjunct instructor at the University of Alaska Anchorage and before UAA, she spent 2002-03 at Wayland Baptist University as an adjunct instructor. 

She currently serves on the James Pruitt Endowed Chair of Management and was named a 2015 and 2016 CPA Practice Advisor, 40 Under 40 in the Accounting Profession selection. Alongside her two CPA honors, Cooper was the 2016 GNAC Faculty Mentor of the Year.

Said Nanooks Director of Athletics, Dr. Brock Anundson, "Amy has already proven to be a great asset to athletics, and we look forward to working with her to ensure student success in intercollegiate athletics. We thank previous FAR, Dr. David Barnes, for his service to Nanook Athletics."

Cooper earned her B.S. in Accounting and French from Birmingham-Southern College in 2000 before earning her Master's of Professional Accounting in Taxation from the University of Washington in 2001. She is currently working towards her Doctorate in Business Administration through the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She became a CPA in 2005 and became a Chartered Global Management Accountant in 2015.
