FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - One week after the Blue/Gold scrimmage, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team will host the Simon Fraser Red Leafs in an exhibition, tomorrow.

Saturday’s exhibition will give many Nooks ample opportunity to get the taste of division one college hockey. The team will dress more skaters than a normal NCAA competition.

“I mean it gives a lot of guys a lot of different opportunities right?” said Erik Largen. “I mean, we’ll have a big lineup that plays. We’re looking at fifteen forwards and eight defenseman playing and all three goalies. That’s the plan as of right now.”

Coming off a season where the Nanooks went 14-18-2, Alaska is ready to start their 2022-23 campaign. The 73rd season will officially begin next Saturday, against American International College. The Nanooks saw steady improvement as the season went on, and they are looking to continue that improvement.

“We have a lot more experience this year than we did last year,” commented sophomore forward, Matt Koethe. “It’s going to be good to be able to finally use that and get some new guys in the lineup, use our speed -- hopefully win a lot of games.”

Fans can fill the Carlson Center for the first time this season. Puck drop is 7:07 p.m. All fans under the age of eighteen, wearing a hockey jersey will get in for free.
