FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Wednesday, March 9 saw the 2nd annual Aerospace Day being celebrated at the Alaska State Capitol in Juneau.

To mark the occasion, the Alaska Senate Labor and Commerce Committee heard presentations about aviation and aerospace efforts around the state.

Presenters included Fairbanks’ Cathy Cahill and Robert McCoy from the University of Alaska’s Troth Yeddha campus.

Cahill presented updates to the work of the Alaska Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration.

According to Lieutenant Governor Kevin Meyer, the efforts in Alaska toward expanding aerospace technology are important for the safety of the U.S. and the world. “I just personally see this as a whole new industry, a whole new area that we can just grow and continue. It’s already had a favorable impact on our economy, both Fairbanks and Kodiak, and again, it’s still in its infant stage. So I think it’s got a great future,” Meyer said.
