What We Do

Promoting Unity, Celebration of Diversity, Rule of Law, and a Strong Nation

This platform is an American-Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC) led initiative, to give voice to people of Ethiopian descent in the diaspora and to contribute to the on-going national dialogue in Ethiopia.

AEPAC believes the current Ethiopian Constitution has failed the nation.

  • Instead of serving as a vehicle to resolve conflict, it has fueled violence and contention.
  • Instead of promoting equality and individual freedom, it has created a system of inequality and second-class citizenship in various parts of the country.
  • Instead of creating a true federal system, it has enshrined a system of centralized power, both in the Federal and Regional governments.
  • Instead of allowing our diversity to be a source of strength, it has fomented  division, animosity, and hatred amongst countrymen.

Our Mission

This website serves as a communication vehicle to establish a working group to develop
amendments to the current Ethiopian Constitution that leads to securing lasting peace and
prosperity for the country.

A Constitution fit for the 21st Century

Our approach

Two working groups to be formed –

  1. An Organizing Committee
  2. An Advisory Panel
    • Solicit public nominations for Organizing Committee within 30 days.
    • Solicit nominations for large advisory panel next 30 days.

Organizing committee shall be comprised of a diverse group of trained professionals and legal scholars – maximum 15 members.

The Advisory Panel shall include interested individuals from all facets of life and varying expertise.

The role of the Organizing Committee is to solicit public input, consult with the Advisory Panel, reach out to all stakeholders and finally prepare the final recommendation for reform based on their findings.

The Organizing Committee will also solicit and publish scholarly articles, facilitate public discussions, and in-person public hearings over the next several months.
