Thank you for your interest in becoming a special ranger with Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA).
TSCRA employs 30 professional law enforcement officers who are strategically positioned throughout Texas and Oklahoma to investigate agricultural theft. TSCRA special rangers are commissioned by the Texas Department of Public Safety and/or the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
In the rare instances when a position becomes available, applicants must meet these minimum requirements to be considered for an interview:
- U.S. citizen
- Excellent physical condition
- Outstanding record of at least five (5) years of active law enforcement experience, including criminal investigative experience
- NOTE: Military police experience does not count toward the five (5) years of required experience
- Hold an active peace officers license
- Meet the approval of Texas Department of Public Safety and/or Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation
- Current in all mandated training required by respective state licensing agency
- Extensive background in the livestock (cattle) industry
- Pass a thorough and comprehensive background investigation
- Pass a polygraph and psychological evaluation
- No criminal history of (and not limited to) felony criminal convictions, family violence, DWI or DUI convictions
- Of good moral character and habits
- Good driving record
- Possess a valid Texas driver’s license free of any restrictions that would compromise the applicant’s ability to perform duties

Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association is a 146-year-old trade organization. TSCRA provides law enforcement and livestock inspection services, legislative and regulatory advocacy, industry news and information, insurance services and educational opportunities for its members and the industry.
The Director of Compliance and Governance has the primary responsibility to ensure the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) and its related entities adhere to their governance structure and adopt and follow best compliance practices.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with the preparation of meeting agendas and recording of minutes for governing bodies of TSCRA and its related entities.
- Serve as record keeper of bylaws, agendas, minutes, compliance documents, and other documents for TSCRA, its related entities, and governing boards.
- Maintain and ensure document accuracy and consistency across TSCRA and its related entities.
- Send out meeting notifications and materials to governing bodies of TSCRA and its related entities.
- Prepare meeting binders and materials for TSCRA officers for Cattle Raisers Convention, Summer Meeting, end of year meetings, and other meetings as necessary.
- File compliance reports for TSCRA Political Action Committees.
- Distribute and collect ethics forms from the TSCRA Board of Directors.
- Prepare and distribute board director nomination information for the TSCRA Nominating Committee.
- File, renew, and keep record of trademark filings for TSCRA and its related entities.
Additional Job Functions:
- Regularly document and track terms of leaders serving on all governing bodies of TSCRA and its related entities, including TSCRA policy and program committees.
- Prepare and distribute service appointment notifications to TSCRA leaders.
- Develop and maintain governance, policy, and program committee purpose, jurisdiction, roles, and responsibilities summary documents.
- Be the lead on TSCRA policy and program committee open enrollment and facilitate TSCRA director involvement in the process.
- Develop and maintain leader contact roster and leader directory (blue book).
- Maintain list of Texas Beef Council, Cattlemen’s Beef Board, and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) board members and representatives.
- Be point of contact for TSCRA officers for meeting and travel arrangements.
- Coordinate new TSCRA director orientation annually.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Specifics
- Four-year college degree from an accredited college or university
- Completion of necessary training and/or certifications
- Experience as a paralegal, C-suite admin, office manager or other similar role preferred.
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Executive Director of Finance and Human Resources.
Job Status: Exempt – full time

2024 Internships

The Fort Worth internship is a full-time internship located at the headquarters office in Fort Worth, Texas. TSCRA will encourage students to experience a wide range of work and departments, to network with industry leaders and gain access to the agriculture industry as a whole.
General Responsibilities
- Students will work with several departments including communications, education, events and membership.
- Students will assist staff in the planning and preparation for the Cattle Raisers Roundup.
- Students will be asked to attend industry trade show events, bull sales, field days and more on behalf of TSCRA.
- Students will be asked to perform a multitude of generic office tasks such as data entry, mailings, filings and other administrative tasks
Qualifications / Specifics
- Must be a college student at an accredited university.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA recommended.
- Be available mid-May to mid-August, with flexibility on school schedule and online classes.
- Willing to relocate and live in Fort Worth, Texas, during the duration of internship.
- Office attire is business casual, while some specific events require business attire.
- Agricultural industry experience preferred but not required.

The government relations internship is a full-time internship that requires relocation to Austin, Texas. The internship frequently requires participants to work outside of traditional business hours. Participants are expected to wear business professional attire each day.
General Responsibilities
- Students will serve an integral role on the government relations team by advocating on behalf of TSCRA’s members at the Texas Capitol.
- Students will regularly interact with and work closely with elected officials and their staff, and as such should always conduct themselves within a professional manner.
- Students will assist in monitoring, analyzing, reporting and acting on legislative and regulatory issues impacting TSCRA members.
- Students will serve as event coordinators for TSCRA’s government relations office and the Cattle Raisers PAC fundraising events.
- Students can expect to perform operational office tasks such as answering phones, managing office supply inventory, coordinating in-office meetings, etc.
Qualifications / Specifics
- Must be a college student at an accredited university pursuing or recently obtained degree in agriculture, political science, government or a related field.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA recommended.
- Be available mid-May to mid-August, with flexibility on school schedule and online classes.
- Willing to relocate and live in Austin, Texas, during duration of internship.
- Office attire is business professional most days.
- Agricultural industry experience and knowledge of the issues affecting it preferred.
- Strong communication, writing and organizational skills.
- Experience working with commonly used computer hardware and software packages.
