Minneapolis high schoolers are eligible to join Lake Street Works.

 
 

Do you like to make things? 

Are you interested in learning about construction?  Do you want to explore being an electrician, plumber, carpenter or HVAC technician? 

If this is you, don't miss this opportunity. Start your path to a meaningful career today. Enroll in Lake Street Works.

Lake Street Works training can help you qualify for these careers. You can get paid as you learn skills for a great job after high school.

How it works at Lake Street Works

 
 

Attend Class

Students attend classes 2 nights a week during their senior year of high school.

The evening starts with a meal, then training in construction and life skills.

Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday nights, from 4pm to 8pm.

 
 

Get Paid

Students are paid $50 per class. The payments are deposited into students’ debit accounts monthly. (LSW helps set up debit accounts for each student.)

By learning at Lake Street Works, students can earn approximately $450 in stipends per month.

 
 

Start a Career

After graduating from Lake Street Works, students can qualify for a paid internship with a contractor, a scholarship to Dunwoody Technical College, and a network of valuable connections in the trades.

All students and their parents will be interviewed prior to being accepted to the program to assess the students’ interest and commitment to learning skills in the construction trades.

MEET THE TEAM

 

Jess Coykendall

Program Director

Jess has 25+ years of experience in the construction industry, specializing in electrical construction and energy efficiency improvements. Managing supply chains for global distributors like Anixter and Crescent Electric, Jess has overseen logistics on projects for tech-giants like Apple, Facebook, and Google.  Jess earned a Bachelor of Science in Education, not to teach, but to better understand how students learn, retain, and utilize the skills needed to succeed in life.  Now, through Lake Street Works, he’s implementing unique strategies to prepare urban youth for life after high school.

Alex has 9+ years of experience in social services. Alex earned his Bachelors at Bethel University. He is responsible for recruiting students for the program, fostering relationships, and creating a positive experience for all involved.
