The College of Sciences and Technology, with about 75 full-time faculty in 6 academic departments.

Our faculty provides a liberal education in diverse areas of study to students pursuing one of our associate, baccalaureate and master’s degree programs and to students of other majors completing the university’s general education course requirements.

Our students are part of a vibrant learning environment that provides openness, debate and mutual respect for different points of view. The College of Sciences and Technology is dedicated to guiding its students to a successful academic experience and future career opportunities.

• Get to know your academic adviser well. Your adviser is the source of important information crucial for your academic success.
• Set specific and realistic goals and share them with your adviser.
• Visit your adviser at least three or four times each semester.
• Do not drop or add courses without talking to your adviser.

The College of Sciences and Technology offers university students programs of study that lead to associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, as well as undergraduate pre-professional programs of study that prepare students for degrees at other institutions.  In addition, the college provides general education coursework in the natural sciences for all university students.  In addition to teaching excellence, our faculty are leaders in research and service, and we engage our students in these activities to help professionalize their skills and prepare them for life beyond graduation.  We uphold accreditation standards for each program in the College that can be accredited by a national organization, including the American Chemical Society, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering.

THE AGNES AND NOAH SOLAR ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN MATHEMATICS, COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS OR CULINARY ARTS is awarded to a full-time student enrolled at Nicholls State University.  The applicant must have a declared major in Mathematics, Computer Information Systems, or Culinary Arts. The recipient will be a graduate of any high school or home-schooled program, but preference will be given to graduates from Morgan City, Louisiana. The recipient must have attained at least sophomore standing with hours toward his or her major.  The applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.  The recipient must demonstrate the need for financial assistance or qualify for a federal Pell Grant.  Preference will be given to a female student in one of the aforementioned majors.  The scholarship will be awarded for one year at a value of $250 per semester.  This scholarship will be advertised when available.

CASEY GALLOWAY ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN BIOLOGY is awarded to a graduate of Berwick High School who demonstrates strong academic and leadership achievements and plans to major in Biology. The recipient must be enrolled as full-time student (12 or more hours of credit courses).  This scholarship will be advertised when available.

THE DR. COLETTE LEISTNER MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN DIETETICS is awarded to a full-time student at Nicholls State University who is majoring in Dietetics.  The recipient will be classified as a senior in the DPD program.  The recipient must have and maintain a 2.75 GPA.  The scholarship will be awarded to students who can demonstrate commitment to the Nicholls community.  A co-curricular form is required.  Contact the Dietetics Department for more information.

THE KERRY ST. PE’ BTNEP ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN MARINE BIOLOGY is awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the Marine Biology Program at Nicholls State University.  Any applicant must have reached at least sophomore standing and have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA.  Graduate students are eligible to apply.  First consideration will be given to a resident of one of the 13 parishes that make up the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary:  Terrebonne, Lafourche, Plaquemines, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. Mary, St. John the Baptist, St. James, Assumption, Ascension, Iberville, West Baton Rouge, Orleans, St. Martin, Iberia, and Pointe Coupe.  If no student from the aforementioned parishes qualifies, a student from another parish in Louisiana may be considered.  The recipient may retain the scholarship for a maximum of six consecutive semesters, provided the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and remains enrolled in the Marine Biology Program.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

THE La. GARDEN CLUB FEDERATION DISTRICT III KEVIN and ASHLEY RUSSO SCHOLARSHIP is awarded to a full-time (12 or more hours) student majoring in Biology, with a concentration in Environmental Biology, at Nicholls State University. The applicant must have attained sophomore, junior or senior standing and must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.  The scholarship is valued at $500 per semester and will be awarded for one year.  To receive the scholarship for the second semester, the student must earn at least a 3.0 GPA and at least 12 hours.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

LOUISIANA SHRIMP ASSOCIATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN MARINE BIOLOGY is awarded to a resident of Louisiana. Preference will first be given to students whose family members are involved in the shrimp industry and secondly to those living in the eight-parish region served by Nicholls State University. The recipient must be TOPS qualified, have at least a 3.00 GPA, and majoring in Biology with a concentration in Marine Biology.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

LOUISIANA SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL SURVEYORS EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP is awarded to a full-time freshman majoring in Geomatics and must maintain a 3.00 or above overall GPA.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

THE MICHAEL C. AND CHRISTINE P. BOURGEOIS #1 ENDOWED 1^ST GENERATION SCHOLARSHIP is awarded to a full-time student enrolled at Nicholls State University.  The recipient must be a U.S. citizen.  Each recipient will be a resident and registered voter of Ward 6 in Lafourche Parish and have graduated from E.D. White Catholic High School, Houma Christian School, or Thibodaux High School.  If a recipient has not reached age 18 yet, he or she must register to vote at age 18 in order to remain eligible to retain the scholarship for future semesters.  Students who meet all other criteria but were home schooled or passed the GED are also eligible to apply.  The recipient must have at least a 2.8 GPA.  The recipient must be awarded the federal Pell Grant. The recipient will be a first generation college student; neither the parents nor legal guardians will have earned a college degree. Each recipient will be enrolled in either in the College of Nursing, the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, the College of Liberal Arts, or the College of Sciences and Technology.  Each recipient will be eligible to receive the award for a maximum of eight semesters provided they maintain a 2.8 GPA while earning at least 12 hours each semester.  The recipient must also remain Pell Grant eligible.  Special consideration will be given to the applicant’s character, leadership and participation in professional or charitable organizations, as well as to honorably discharged members of the United States Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard.  Student must turn in a copy of their voter registration card.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS’ SPORTS MEDICINE SCHOLARSHIP is awarded to a full-time student majoring in a sports medicine related program (i.e., Health Sciences: Pre-Athletic Training Concentration) in the College of Sciences and Technology.  The recipient will be classified as either a junior or senior and have earned at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA at the time of application.  The recipient shall hold the scholarship for two consecutive semesters (one academic year), provided all of the above criteria are met.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

THE NORMAN SWANNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN ALLIED HEALTH is awarded to a full-time student in the College of Sciences and Technology majoring in a program of study within the Department of Allied Health Sciences. The recipient will be classified as either a sophomore or junior and will have earned a 2.50 GPA at the time of the award. The recipient shall hold the scholarship for two consecutive semesters, providing all of the above criteria is met. Primary consideration must go to a resident of Lafourche Parish. Should there not be a qualified applicant from Lafourche Parish, the scholarship may be awarded to any other student who meets the criteria.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

R.H. DICKIE AND CHARLENE BARKER EXCELLENCE IN MARINE AND ENVIRONMENTAL BIOLOGY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP. The recipient must be a full-time graduate student who is majoring in Marine and Environmental Biology. The recipient must also be a resident of either Lafourche or Terrebonne parishes. The scholarship is valid for two years provided he or she meets all the above criteria and maintains a 3.0 overall GPA.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

STUART A. LIRETTE, Sr. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND IN ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY STUDIES. The applicant must be TOPS qualified, must be a biology major with a concentration on Environmental Biology. The recipient must be a full-time student and maintain an overall 2.5 GPA.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

THEODORE L. “TEDDY” DUHE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES is awarded to a student enrolled full-time (12 or more hours) at Nicholls State University. The student must have a declared major in any of the Allied Health Sciences programs (Athletic Training, Communicative Disorders, Dietetics, Health Science Professional Practice, and Health Science Supervision and Management). The recipient must have a 3.25 GPA. If the student is an entering freshman, he/she will be TOPS qualified.  Financial need must be demonstrated.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

THE WESLEY FRANK POSKEY, JR ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP is awarded to a full-time non-traditional student enrolled in the Petroleum Engineering Technology and Safety Management program at Nicholls State University seeking a Bachelor of Science degree. The applicant must be a resident of Louisiana and a citizen of the U.S. The applicant must be at least 30 years of age at the time of application. The applicant must have at least a 2.5 GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 hours.  The scholarship is valued at $500 per semester for two semesters.  The recipient must not be receiving a federal Pell Grant.  The applicant must have work experience in the oil and gas industry.  The scholarship will be advertised when available.

FUGRO CHANCE INC., EXCELLENCE IN GEOMATICS SCHOLARSHIP Two $1000 annual awards are awarded to qualifying incoming freshman, sophomore, junior and senior students majoring in Geomatics. Preference will be given to a current or former employee or intern of Fugro Chance, and the recipient must agree to work as a paid intern for a Fugro company the following summer. The recipient must be a full-time student and maintain a 2.75 or above overall GPA.

LOUISIANA SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL SURVEYORS EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP ($1000) is awarded to a full-time freshman majoring in Geomatics, and the recipient must maintain a 3.00 or above overall GPA.

T BAKER SMITH SCHOLARSHIP is awarded to a full-time student enrolled in Geomatics. Recipient must have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.75. Each scholarship is valued at $2500 per semester.

THE C.L. JACK STELLY AND ASSOCIATES EXCELLENCE IN GEOMATICS SCHOLARSHIP is restricted to a student from Louisiana studying Geomatics, and preference will be given to a student who has completed a similar two-year program at one of the Louisiana Technical College campuses in the state. Preference is also given to a student who will be of junior standing, but entering freshmen may also apply. The recipients must be a full-time student and maintain a 2.75 or above overall GPA. The annual award amount is $2,500.

JULES ORESTE CHUSTZ MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR GEOMATICS This endowed scholarship will fund ten to twelve new $1,000 annual awards. We plan to distribute it equally among freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior years. The criteria will be set by the Geomatics faculty every academic year.

mph INC., EXCELLENCE IN GEOMATICS SCHOLARSHIP Two $1000 annual awards are awarded to qualifying incoming freshman who are maintaining a 3.0 or above overall GPA. One $1000 annual award is awarded to qualifying minority (preference will be given to women). Two $1000 annual awards for existing Geomatics majors in good academic standing.
