👷 April 28th is the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. We spoke to Guofeng Qian (钱国峰), a Safety Expert at UPM's Changshu paper mill, to get learn about his story throughout the years at UPM. #meettheteam #behindthescenes #passionatebynature 💡 What are your impressions of UPM and what keeps you motivated at work everyday? I have been working at UPM for more than 25 years since 1998. Responsibility is central to UPM’s operations and the company provides a very harmonious working environment for everyone. The strong sense of purpose that comes from reducing safety risks for my colleagues has motivated me to create a safer working environment. 💡 As a Safety Expert, what is your typical daily work routine? UPM is always committed to investing in a safety culture. As a Safety Expert, I will visit the front-line area to check the safety behavior on a daily basis and discuss with on-site workers about how we can improve our safe way of working. From safety competitions to safety mill visits and safety training, we’re tried various activities at Changshu paper mill to raise the safety awareness among employees.   💡 Could you share an example of a moment you're especially proud of? In addition to internal safety management, we're also actively involved in local volunteer work. A few years ago, I conducted safety training with local students to raise their safety awareness. For me, safety work means doing the same thing every day – training, inspection and risk identification – while expecting zero accidents!

📣 Exciting news!   👀 New EU packaging rules – Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) – are soon in place. Read the first thoughts on the freshly agreed PPWR by Jukka-Pekka Rantakokko, Senior Manager of Public Affairs from UPM - The Biofore Company.   ♻ As a pioneer of sustainable packaging materials, UPM has closely followed the development of the PPWR and we have advocated for the recognition of fibre-based packaging materials.
