Follow me.

Just two words–follow me (the motto of the Army Infantry) –evoke the values of trust, courage, dedication, discernment, perseverance, and care.

Follow me isn’t just a command during times of crisis: it’s a promise.

From the battlefield to natural disasters, from mass violence to epidemics, crisis leadership is a critical skill in both the civilian and military environments. Leadership values in neither sphere can be learned from anything other than experience in the crisis arena itself.

Crisis transforms leaders, and the heart of that transformation is how we communicate–between each other and the nation we serve.

What can we learn from the stories of the civilian leaders and soldiers who have managed the crises of the last 50 years? What values can we bring to the crises of the future? How can we ensure that both civil society and the Army are prepared when the Nation calls?

PANELISTS:

  • Governor Haley Barbour (Crisis: Hurricane Katrina)
  • Ambassador Deborah Birx, MD (Crisis: COVID-19)
  • Paul Critchlow (3-Mile Island)
  • Secretary Sam Skinner (Crisis: 1989 San Francisco earthquake)

MODERATOR:

  • Senator Trent Lott: Former Senate Majority Leader
