Joe Biden is even underwater in New York

.

Joe Biden has done such a miserable job as president that he is underwater in even the strongest of Democratic enclaves — New York.

A Siena poll of likely New York voters gave Biden a failing grade, with 47% approval and 51% disapproval. Biden is underwater among independents (-26 points), suburban voters (-18 points), and Latinos (-18 points). This comes in a poll in which other New York Democrats enjoy double-digit leads statewide, although Gov. Kathy Hochul’s lead over Rep. Lee Zeldin in the gubernatorial race is closer than Democrats would like.

If the Siena poll captures the prevailing sentiment in New York, it would become even harder to find a state where Biden isn’t in the negatives. Last month, Morning Consult determined that Biden’s approval rating is underwater in 44 states. His net approval in New York was just +2 points. The only other states to give him a positive grade were California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

According to Morning Consult, this means that Biden is less popular than former President Donald Trump was at the same point during the 2018 midterm elections. Biden’s handling of COVID, inflation, and Afghanistan have set Democrats up to lose the House of Representatives in November and spurred conversations about whom Democrats should nominate in 2024.

Every week, it seems like Biden’s approval has hit the bottom floor, and every week, he goes lower. Now that New York has soured on him, it’s difficult to see how he could go any lower. But, to paraphrase former President Barack Obama, don’t underestimate Biden’s ability to muck things up.
