10:30-11:30 a.m. | Practitioner Roundtable: Recruitment, Retention, & Diversity: Best Hiring Practices, Internal Communications and Employee Engagement | Student Union Ballroom

Participants: Jennifer Anderson, Natashia Gregoire, Jeff Motley, Marti Powers, Elizabeth Whittington, Dr. Hua Jiang, & Dr. Maria Len-Rios

Session Description: This session is for the practitioners (and researchers who specialize in this area) to talk about a few key issues in IMC today. Questions will appear on the screen to encourage thoughtful reflection on: 1) Internal Communications: Challenges and Best Practices, 2) How to Recruit Good Employees, in a variety of roles, and 3) Retention of your best team members: Ideas and Challenges.

Rather than a structured panel session, we will leave you to chat together openly and honestly about these topics, as well as any others that may come to mind that you all seem to face. With participants representing brands across multiple industries, this discussion should prove enlightening and hopefully elicit some takeaways for all. An audience will watch this ~45-minute discussion without interrupting and will draft questions for a debrief/Q&A at the end. Insights from this discussion could be used to (anonymously) inform academic research related to internal communication in public relations and/or to inform the development of modules and topics for our new special topics course: IMC 580: Internal Communication and Employee Engagement, which was created as a result of the 2022 IMC Connect!

11:30-1:00 p.m. | Networking Break and Drop-In Resume & Portfolio Review for students, sponsored by the UM Career Center | Student Union Ballroom

Students are encouraged to stop by the Career Center table to have their resumes and/or digital portfolios critiqued and reviewed. Receive helpful feedback to prepare you for the job market! This is a wonderful follow-up opportunity for those who participated in the morning portfolio-building session to receive real-time feedback on their initial work. This workshop is "come and go" so bring your printed OR digital resume/portfolio, and drop in as needed to meet with a Career Center expert reviewer.

12:00-12:50 pm I Lunch for invited guests | The Lyceum, Room 200

Join us for some classic Mississippi cuisine: fried catfish and all the fixin's from Oxford's own Taylor Grocery.

(Concurrent session) 12:00-12:50 p.m | Boxed lunches in The Grove (weather permitting) for participants from peer institutions and for Event Planning and Management students.

1:00-1:50 p.m. | Panel 1: Maximizing Your Message on Both Social and Traditional Media Channels | Student Union Ballroom

Participants: Dr. Schroeder, Dr. Nowak, Elizabeth Whittington, Malcolm Berkley, Marti Powers, & Jeff Motley

Panel Description: This panel will dive into the full spectrum of the integrated marketing communications (IMC) mix to answer the following questions: How can both social and traditional media channels be utilized to build relationships with a variety of key stakeholders? Beyond the days of traditional press releases presented to news outlets in manilla folders, what does media relations look like? What is the role of traditional media today, and how do journalism and public relations intersect? What trends related to this topic might communications professionals need to know in 2023? What best practices might both journalism AND IMC students know and implement to create a positive, symbiotic working relationship?

1:50-2:00 p.m. | Networking Break

2:00-2:50 p.m. | Panel 2: 5-Minute Findings: Hottest Topics in IMC Research | Student Union Ballroom

Participants: Drs. Glen Nowak, Maria Len-Rios, Johnathan Schroeder, Hua Jiang, Graham Bodie, and Jason Cain

Panel Description: Don't have time to find and comb through a 30-page academic article in an obscure journal? Researchers will share the best, most important thing that they have found (or read) lately from academic literature that could help practitioners in the field. The sky is the limit for this session, and the idea is to learn all that we can about some pretty complex IMC topics in manageable, bite-sized snippets: just 5 minutes each. Hosted in a game-show style format, the pressure is on, as the timer counts down and all of those research findings must be condensed into a couple of key takeaways.

2:00-2:50 p.m. | Networking Break

3:00-3:50 p.m. I Panel 3: Getting Things Right When Things Go Wrong: Crisis Communication and Corporate Reputation Management | Student Union Ballroom

Participants: Malcolm Berkley, Dr. Glen Nowak, Jennifer Anderson, Marti Powers, & Elizabeth Whittington

Panel Description: IMC students have heard and read many of the horror stories that often unfold virally, on a global stage, where crises appear seemingly out of nowhere and majorly impact brands' reputations as well as their financial returns. We want to hear from you: The good, the bad, and the ugly. This panel will facilitate discussion on crisis management and how to help your brand come out of these situations, if not smelling like roses, at least in the best possible way. Experts will share anecdotal stories from their own experiences working for large brands (and possibly smaller ones) and coach students on best practices, things that worked, and most of all "WHAT NOT TO DO!"

3:50-4:00 p.m. | Networking Break

4:00-4:50 p.m. I Panel 4: The Best Idea You Ever Had: Sharing Success Stories from IMC Experts | Student Union Ballroom

Participants: Marti Powers, Jeff Motley, Elizabeth Whittington, Jennifer Anderson, & Malcolm Berkley

Panel Description: Panelists will think back over the course of their careers to narrow down 1-2 of their biggest wins of all time. Please share, in great detail, what made this innovative idea, new practice, experiment, campaign, or project such a hit. It can be from any season in your career and should provide some tangible "lessons learned" to those who hope to follow in your footsteps someday. Consider this a chance to brag--we are all ears!
