Why Join the Network?

The Principle of Ujima: Collective Work and Responsibility
Ujima means to build and maintain our community together and make our brothers’ and sisters’ problems our problems and solve them together. That’s what we aim to accomplish with the Network. Together, we can promote access, justice, and health within our communities by providing the tools and resources needed to create community-oriented solutions to alleviate the barriers Black Californians face in their everyday lives.

The Black Health Network will be a community for us, by us, and a space that we are in control of, where we can set our own agenda. A place where we can harness our collective power to tackle the non-profit community’s most common challenges:

  • The long-standing funding challenge of the giving gap in philanthropy Black-led organizations face.
  • Capacity and wealth building to ensure long-term sustainability of our organizations.
  • Establishing meaningful connections, building rapport, securing support, and sustaining collaborative partnerships
  • Receiving adequate investment to support community-based deployment of programmatic work driven by intimate understanding of the racialized experience of communities of color and issues the communities face.
  • Eliminating barriers that impede engaging in Co-Liberation.
Let’s harness our collective voice, our collective passion, and our collective power to drive equitable systems change so that we can achieve health equity for Black Californians!
